“ECONtribute – Der Wirtschaftspodcast” #Education: Is our education system fair to opportunities?

16.06.2021

A new episode of the “ECONtribute Wirtschaftspodcast” with focus on #education is now available on Spotify, Soundcloud and Deezer (in German).

Pia Pinger, professor at ECONtribute at the University of Cologne, and her colleagues studied the impact of a mentoring program for elementary school children with lower socioeconomic status on their development. The result: the probability to switch to the highest secondary school in Germany after elementary school increases by eleven percentage points after receiving individual support. We talk about how schools are becoming fairer to opportunities and how the Jungle Book relates to it. This episode discusses fair opportunities, performance equity and education reforms.

In monthly episodes of approximately 30 minutes Carolin Jackermeier, Junior Science Editor at ECONtribute discusses the most exciting topics of ECONtribute’s research and provides insights into the work of the Cluster of Excellence. The second season explores the topic of #education. How can we achieve equal opportunities and effective integration in German schools? How will the Corona pandemic affect education in the long term? And what do students actually expect from their degree? Season 2 of the ECONtribute podcast provides the answers.
