ECONtribute podcast: Start of season 2

12.05.2021

The second season of “ECONtribute – Der Wirtschaftspodcast” is now available on Spotify, Soundcloud and Deezer (in German).

Following Season 1, which focused on the role of #gender in the world of economics, the podcast now deals with #education. In episodes of approximately 30 minutes, Carolin Jackermeier, Junior Science Editor at ECONtribute, monthly discusses the most exciting topics in ECONtribute research and provides insights into the work of the Cluster of Excellence. How can we achieve equal opportunities and effective integration in German schools? How will the Corona pandemic affect education in the long term? And what do students actually expect from their degree? Season 2 of the ECONtribute podcast provides the answers.

In the first episode, Ludger Wößmann, head of the Ifo Center for the Economics of Education and Professor of Economics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, analyzes the school shutdown in spring 2021. Having already accompanied last year’s school closures with a representative survey, he draws a sobering balance for Germany’s educational institutions: In the discipline of remote teaching, most schools failed. The episode discusses the long-term consequences for children and young people, rising educational inequality and policy failures.
