Selten Salon 2019: Raising Children from an Economic Perspective: Of Inequality, Helicopter Parents, and Tiger Moms.
Matthias Doepke, economist and author of “Love, Money, and Parenting: How Economics Explains the Way We Raise Our Kids,” provides evidence in his research that economic conditions foster different parenting styles. Doepke believes, “Rising economic inequality since the 1970s has created the phenomenon of ‘helicopter parenting’ in the first place.” Join Professor Doepke for a discussion on how to effectively counteract this with family, education and economic policies.
