Jonathan Schulz (George Mason University) will give a mini course on ‘An Introduction to Cultural Evolution’ for doctoral students and postdocs of the University of Cologne and University of Bonn.
This mini course gives a brief introduction to the field of cultural evolution. At the core we’ll focus on cultural evolution as a framework to better understand the cultural evolutionary origins of human behavior, factors that give rise to cultural variation in behavior, and its downstream impact on the evolution of political institutions and economic prosperity. We’ll take a broad interdisciplinary approach: we’ll study historical and comparative approaches to understand cross-societal variation in culture and institutions; we’ll discuss findings in behavioral and experimental economics to get a better understanding of cultural determinants of economic decision making.
