Farewell to Bettina Rockenbach – Congratulations on the Presidency of the Leopoldina

29.09.2025

At today’s general assembly in Mettmann, the Reinhard Selten Institute bids farewell to Professor Dr. Bettina Rockenbach, one of its founding directors. We thank her for her longstanding commitment and her valuable contributions to the Institute since its foundation. At the same time, we warmly congratulate her on her appointment as President of the Leopoldina, National Academy of Sciences, effective March 1, 2025. This appointment represents an exceptional recognition of her outstanding scientific achievements and academic leadership.

Bettina Rockenbach completed her doctorate and habilitation under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Reinhard Selten at the University of Bonn. Together with Benny Moldovanu, also a former student of Selten, she laid the foundation for what later became the Reinhard Selten Institute. Beyond her work for the Institute, she has served as Prorector for Research and Innovation at the University of Cologne, and as Principal Investigator in the Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute. Her academic career and dedication to science will continue to inspire our Institute and Cluster, and the wider research community.

The Reinhard Selten Institute will continue its successful work under the leadership of its scientific directors Benny Moldovanu, Pia Pinger, Thomas Dohmen, and Matthias Heinz, together with its managing director Carola Braun.
