Fathers working from home take on more responsibility for their children. This was one of the finding of Cluster member Hans-Martin von Gaudecker together with Christian Zimpelmann, Radost Holler and Lenard Simon from the Rheinische-Friedrich-Universität Bonn. The analyses of representative surveys and population-wide administrative data show that working from home can reduce the gender care gap.
This also means that the division of childcare has become fairer. The results also suggest that wider acceptance of home office by employers could encourage greater gender convergence in the intra-household division of labour.
