What effects does migration have on the German labor market? Can it help reduce the shortage of skilled workers? And why is Germany particularly unpopular among highly qualified professionals?
Hannah Illing, a postdoc at ECONtribute at the University of Bonn, conducts research on the labor market, specializing in gender equality and migration. In two studies, she has analyzed the effects of migration on the German labor market and the long-term integration of skilled workers. We talk about how migration affects wages, jobs and unemployment, why the literature on this is sometimes contradictory and why the barriers in the labor market are higher for migrants than for Germans throughout their working lives.
This episode is about labor, migration, and integration.
