Teodora Boneva joins ECONtribute as an Assistant Professor in Applied Economics at the University of Bonn, effective June 1, 2021.

Teodora Boneva studied Economics in Mannheim and completed her Master’s degree at the University of Oxford, where she also received her PhD in 2015. Afterwards, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University College in London (UCL) and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Oxford. Prior to her appointment in Bonn, she was an Assistant Professor at the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development at the University of Zürich. In her research she focuses on Labour and Behavioral Economics. She investigates the role of beliefs in educational investment decisions and the role of educational interventions in fostering skills in childhood.

Teodora Boneva bases her research on novel data as well as survey-based techniques to understand how to promote skill acquisition and narrow socioeconomic gaps in educational and labour market outcomes.

In 2020, Teodora Boneva received an ERC Grant to shed light on the role of beliefs, preferences, constraints and social norms in women’s decisions about having children and returning to work after the birth of a child. Prof. Dr. Thomas Dohmen, Bonn spokesperson for ECONtribute is thrilled about the appointment: “Teodora Boneva conducts excellent and innovative research and is therefore a great fit for the University of Bonn and ECONtribute.“
