Selten Salon with Claudia Buch (German Federal Bank)

Why is financial stability important for society?

The Cluster of Excellence ECONtribute and the Institute for Economic Policy at the University of Cologne invite citizens, students and researchers to this year’s Selten Salon with Prof. Dr.Claudia M. Buch, Vice President of the Deutsche Bundesbank. The lecture will take place on site in Cologne (studio dumont).

The functioning of the financial system is of central importance for real economic development. Financial crises have shown that disruptions in the financial system can harm economic and employment growth and burden government budgets. It is therefore important that the system is sufficiently resilient. After all, a stable financial system can also cushion unexpected events – even during periods of upheaval in the real economy. But how stable is the financial system and what are the current challenges? These and other questions will be explored by Prof. Dr. Claudia Buch in her lecture.

Claudia Buch is Vice President at Deutsche Bundesbank and a honorary professor of the Faculty of Economics and Management at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg (OvGU). Buch is also an alternate on the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) of the International Monetary Fund. Prior to that she was President of the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) and Chair of the Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics (IFC) of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
