What is the economic impact of natural disasters? That’s the question addressed in the latest episode of the ECONtribute economics podcast, now available on all major podcast portals.
Host Carolin Jackermeier talks to Hanna Schwank, Professor of Economic History at the University of Bonn. In a study, she analyzed the long-term effects of the 1906 San Francisco fire, one of the largest natural disasters in U.S. history. The episode focuses on how natural disasters affect people economically over decades, why they may even have a positive economic impact on subsequent generations, and why the researcher was only able to observe men in her data.
The new episode is the first one after a short summer break, during which there will also be a small change in the content of the podcast: In order to stay up to date, the ECONtribute Wirtschaftspodcast will no longer present its topics in short seasons, but in individual episodes.
