ECONtribute Research Workshop: Violence in Multi-Disciplinary Perspective

ECONtribute invites to the research workshop on „Violence in Multi-Disciplinary Perspective“.

Scholars across the social sciences have studied questions around violence from different perspectives. How can we measure violence? What are determinants of violent behavior and what is the role of individual attributes, social structures, and policies? What are the consequences of violence for offenders and what are the pathways to and from crime? How do effective punishment systems look like and what are the shortcomings of existing ones?

These and many more questions, which stand at the core of violence research, are important from a social and from a policy perspective. Yet, answers may vary across social science disciplines where the respective disciplines sometimes focus on different aspects of the same problems, employ different methods and standards of evidence, and pursue different theoretical agendas.

This workshop intends to bring together economists, sociologists, and criminologists to present and discuss their work on related topics and across disciplines to foster exchange and invite for discussion.

Confirmed speakers and discussants:

Esther Arenas Arroyo (WU Vienna), Jennifer Doleac (Texas A&M), Randi Hjalmarsson (University of Gothenburg), Nadine Ketel (VU Amsterdam), Tom Kirchmaier (CEP/LSE), Marieke Liem (University of Leiden), Marie Rosenkrantz Lindegaard (NSCR, UvA Amsterdam), Matthew Lindquist (SOFI, University of Stockholm), Daniel Seddig (University of Cologne & Münster), Jean-Louis van Gelder (MPI Freiburg), Per-Olof Wikström (University of Cambridge).
